Pitoelas Big Band

Pitoelas Big Band was born out of idealism and enthusiasm of its founding members towards music, especially jazz and big bands. Started with just a chit chat, exploring ideas together, to actually rehearsing and performing together, Pitoelas Big Band is now a solid group consisting of Indonesia’s finest young professional musicians. Each member of Pitoelas is a partner to each other, because everyone invested their ideas, time and energy in the company.

Saxophonist and composer Donny Koeswinarno, is one of the founding members of the big band and now the music director and bandleader of Pitoelas, he writes original music and arrangements for the big band, as well as acting as the contractor and manager. One of the original arrangement from Donny and the big band is “Ondel-ondel” an Indonesian traditional Betawi song arranged to a jazz big band style music. Among other members of the group are the award winning pianist, arranger, and composer Irsa Destiwi, clarinetist/saxophonist Eugen Bounty, trombonist Enggar Widodo, and other well-known names in the jazz community of Indonesia.

In October 2008, Pitoelas Big Band performed in the European Bussiness Chamber Of Commerce (Eurocham) Gala Dinner in Kemspinsky Hotel, Jakarta. The performance was a success, featuring singers Indra Aziz and Otti Jamalus. The big band performed dance songs as well as jazz tunes from their jazz repertoire.

Pitoelas Big Band is now the hottest professional jazz big band with the widest range of repertoire in Indonesia, fresh sounding, and good looking, and swinging hard.
Currently Pitoelas Big Band is preparing their debut recording album.
